Today, I ran at the Radlett Rotary Fun Run. I was really excited to return because I had raced here last year and done very well. This year, I was running in two races — the 1.5 km race first, followed by the 5 km race straight after. I really wanted to beat my time from last year’s 1.5 km race, which was 5 minutes and 57 seconds, but I also had to be careful. I knew I had a much longer and tougher race coming up next, so I needed to save some of my energy.
As soon as the 1.5 km race started, I sprinted ahead to get into the lead. One boy tried to keep up with me for a short while, but I quickly pulled ahead and started creating a big gap. After that, there wasn’t really much competition — I was far in front. I didn’t need to push myself too hard, and I ended up winning the race easily. My time was 5 minutes and 43 seconds, which was faster than last year. The funniest part was that the person closest behind me was my eight-year-old sister!

Today, I ran in the Hitchin 10K Golden Mile, which is a special 1-mile race for children aged 14 and under. The race goes around Hitchin town centre, and it was my first time ever entering it. I was a bit nervous because the route looked confusing with lots of twists and turns. There were also hills, uneven bricks, and I knew I would be racing against boys and girls who were much older than me. But I was still determined to give it my best.
We arrived early, so I had time to walk the course before the race began. That helped a little, but it still seemed tricky to follow. Even with that, I was focused on doing well. As the race started, I sprinted quickly to get a good position and found myself in second place straight away. The boy in first place was very tall and looked much older than me, maybe even a teenager. He was running really fast, but I was going to try my hardest to stay close.

Today, I took part in the Middlesex Young Athletics League race in Perivale. I was chosen to be one of the scorers for my club’s under 11s team, which made me feel very proud. In each race, two athletes are selected as scorers for the team, so it felt special to be one of them. I knew I had to give my best and try as hard as I could to get a great result for myself and my club.
The race was 600 metres long, and I felt confident because I had been doing really well in training. My best official time in a track meeting before this was 2 minutes and 1 second, but I had run 1 minute 54 in practice, so I knew I had the chance to beat my personal best. I was focused and ready to run fast.

Today, I ran at the Battersea 5k Parkrun on 27th April. I was really excited because I knew this course is one of the fastest in the whole of the UK. It is actually the third fastest Parkrun in the country! I felt ready and confident that I could smash my personal best. I had been looking forward to this race for a long time.
At the start, a kind lady offered to pace me to help me reach a time of 18 minutes and 30 seconds. I felt lucky to have her support. As soon as the race began, I got off to an amazing sprint. I was running really fast and felt strong, but I also knew there was still a long way to go. I had to save some energy for later.

Hi, I’m Daniyal! I discovered my passion for running in 2023 and love competing in races, especially Parkruns. The thrill of running keeps me going!
