Donkin Cup Year 5 Win 2024

I had such an amazing time at this year’s Donkin Cup! I had my fingers crossed that it wouldn’t rain like last year when the race got postponed twice due to bad weather, which was really frustrating. Thankfully, the weather held up, but I was so excited the night before that I could barely sleep. Not only was I buzzing to race, but I was also heading off to Spain with my school later that same day, so it was a double thrill!

I went into the race feeling really confident. After all, I’d won it last year and I’ve been training hard, especially with the Habs Dash runs on Mondays and Thursdays, where I recently got a personal best of 13:41. As soon as the race started, I took an early lead and did everything I could to stretch it further throughout the race. My main goals were to avoid tripping up and to finish with a strong time. My Dad told me that the best time for Year 5 last year was 11:57, and I was determined to beat that and win by a good margin.

Twyford Together Charity Fun Run 2024

This year was my first time entering the Twyford Together Charity Fun Run, and I was really excited. I signed up for the Year 5 and Year 6 race, which was a 2km run held at The Piggott School in Berkshire. It felt like the perfect preparation for the Donkin Cup, which is coming up next week at school, so I was eager to do well.

We arrived quite early to register and collect our race numbers. My sister was racing before me in the Year 3 and Year 4 category. She did brilliantly, coming 3rd overall but finishing as the 2nd female, which made me really proud of her. Watching her race first definitely got me in the mood to give it my all.

Abbots Langley Tough 10 Race 2024

This was my first time competing in the Abbots Langley Tough 10, and I’d been warned that it lived up to its name. The course was said to be challenging, with a lot of road running involved. I was a bit anxious because the route would take us onto main roads, and I wasn’t sure if they’d be closed off or if we’d have to run with cars around us.

The race distance was supposed to be 3km, with plenty of uphill sections, especially towards the end where the climb was going to be tough. On the morning of the race, my dad and I drove around the route so I could get a feel for the roads I’d be running on, and the night before, I’d studied the route map to make sure I was prepared.

Northala 5K ParkRun 5th October 2024

On the 5th of October, I went to run the 5K ParkRun at Northala Fields. Lately, I’ve started running more regularly at this location because I was told it’s flatter, and it’s a single lap course, unlike Harrow ParkRun where I’d been doing three laps. My Dad also found a really nice community of runners there, with lots of adults who’ve been eager to help and support me. Since ParkRun requires children under 11 to run with a responsible adult, my Dad always has to find someone to run alongside me during the race.

I’d already run at Northala Fields a couple of times before and managed to set a personal best (PB) of 19:34. But this time, I was determined to beat that time. As usual, my Dad had arranged for someone to run with me, and I was really focused on my goal: to break into the 18-minute range for a 5K ParkRun before I turn 10.
