Leamington Open Graded Series 3rd June 2025

Today I went to Leamington Spa to race. I was feeling excited but a little tired as the race was in the evening. When the race started, I got off to a very fast start. I managed to take the lead right at the beginning. For the first 300 metres, I was running at the front, which felt great at the time. But I think I went too fast too early, and it started to catch up with me very quickly.

After that fast start, I began to feel tired. My legs started to feel heavy, and I could feel my energy dropping. I knew I had pushed too hard at the start, and it was difficult to keep up my speed. Even though I tried to stay close to my target pace, it was getting harder and harder with every step.

The track itself didn’t help much either. It wasn’t very smooth, and I could feel my legs struggling with the surface. It almost felt like my legs were being pulled away from me as I tried to keep running strong. Every time I lifted my legs, it felt like they were getting heavier. But I told myself to keep going and not to give up.

As I carried on, I kept pushing as much as I could. My breathing was heavy, and my legs were burning, but I kept moving forward. I knew that even if I couldn’t hit my target time, I still wanted to finish as strong as possible. The last part of the race was really hard, but I gave everything I had left in a sprint to the finish line.

In the end, I finished with a time of 5 minutes and 14 seconds. My target was 5 minutes, so I was a bit disappointed that I missed it. But I was still quite close to my personal best, only 5 seconds off. Even though I didn’t get the time I wanted, I am proud that I kept going and didn’t give up, especially as I was already tired before the race even started.

Looking back, I know I can learn from this race. Next time, I will try to start a bit slower and save more energy for later in the race. Every race helps me learn something new, and I am already looking forward to my next one.
