Habs Dash 30th September 2025

Today I ran in my school race called the Habs Dash. It’s a 3.5 km run that goes all around my school, and it’s one of my favourite events of the year. I’ve been doing this run for the last few years, and my best time before today was 13 minutes and 17 seconds, which was actually the Prep School record! This year, I really wanted to beat that time and maybe even get into the 12-minute range if I could.

Because I’m now in Year 6, I usually run with the Prep boys, but this time I got special permission to run with the Senior School. That meant I was racing against boys from Year 7 all the way up to Year 13, and even some teachers! I was put in the first wave, which is the fastest group and includes the teachers, Year 13 boys, and other top runners. I was both nervous and excited because I knew it would be an amazing chance to push myself and try to beat my old record.

The route for the Senior race is slightly different from the Prep one, even though it’s the same distance. Because of that, I got a bit confused during the run. I wasn’t completely sure where the finish line was, which made it hard to pace myself properly. Still, I just kept running as hard as I could, especially towards the end when I thought I might be nearly done!

When I crossed the finish line and looked at my time, I was so happy — 13 minutes and 10 seconds! That’s a brand-new record for the Prep School and also the fastest time ever for my year. Even though I didn’t quite get into the 12s, I was really proud of that result, especially since I was running against much older boys.

I came sixth overall in the first wave, which I think is pretty good considering I’m only in Year 6 and the others were all in senior school. I even managed to beat all the teachers, which made me smile! It felt great to prove that I deserved to be in the fastest group.

Overall, I’m really happy with how I ran today. I know I can go even faster next time, especially if I don’t get confused about the route or the finish. I’m already looking forward to running the Habs Dash again and I’m determined to finally break into the 12-minute range. That’s my big goal now, and I’m going to work hard to make it happen.
