Today I ran a one mile road race in Ealing. I was really excited because I had never run a one mile road race before. This was an official race which means it will go onto my Power of 10 record. That made it even more special for me. When I arrived, I made sure to walk around the course so I could see what it was like. It wasn’t on a running track, it was on the pavements and the road, so I wanted to get a feel of it before I raced.
When the race started, I made sure I was standing near the front so I would not get stuck behind people. As soon as the race began, I set off at a fast pace. My target time was five minutes and thirty seconds, and I really wanted to see if I could achieve it. I knew it would be tough, but I told myself to keep pushing all the way.
During the race, I tried my best to stay strong. I was running against both adults and children, but there was no age limit for the children so some of them could have been older than me. I was really pleased that I managed to beat all the children in the race. Some of the adults were faster than me, but I think I still finished in the top ten which makes me proud.
The weather made it harder than it could have been. It was raining and there were lots of puddles on the ground. I had to steer around them which slowed me down a little. Even with the rain, I kept my focus and didn’t give up. I was just a little over my target time of five minutes and thirty seconds, but I still felt very happy with my run.
Looking back, I think I could have gone a bit faster if the conditions had been better. Even so, I am really proud of my performance. It was my first official one mile road race and I gave it everything I had. Now I know what it feels like to run that distance in a race, I feel more confident for next time.
I believe this was the first time they held this one mile race on that course. I hope they will do it again in the future. If they do, I will definitely take part. My aim will be to get five minutes and thirty seconds or maybe even break under that time. I know I can do it, and I am excited to try again and see how much I can improve.
