Today, I ran at the Battersea 5k Parkrun on 27th April. I was really excited because I knew this course is one of the fastest in the whole of the UK. It is actually the third fastest Parkrun in the country! I felt ready and confident that I could smash my personal best. I had been looking forward to this race for a long time.
At the start, a kind lady offered to pace me to help me reach a time of 18 minutes and 30 seconds. I felt lucky to have her support. As soon as the race began, I got off to an amazing sprint. I was running really fast and felt strong, but I also knew there was still a long way to go. I had to save some energy for later.
By the time I reached the 2-kilometre mark, I was flying! I was running faster than ever, and everything was going well. I could feel it in my legs that it was going to be a personal best. Even though it felt good, I didn’t slow down. I kept pushing and focused on keeping my speed high.
Later in the race, I had a small drop in pace and ran my slowest kilometre. I knew if I wanted to get under 18 minutes and 30 seconds, I had to give everything I had left. I didn’t panic — I just worked harder, using every bit of energy in my body to keep going.
When I saw the finish line, I sprinted as fast as I could. I crossed the line with an amazing time of 18 minutes and 19 seconds! I was over the moon. It felt incredible to beat my goal and get such a good time.
Now, I have one more mission: to run under 18 minutes before I turn 10 years old. I also want to get into the top 5 for Under 11 Boys in the country. Right now, I am 14th on the RunBritain national ladder, but I believe if I keep working hard, I can do it!
